Extracts from "A Career in Music?"
The Basics
COMMON SENSE – Do you have common sense? Think about it. Look back at the stupid things you may have done in the past and did you learn? Look at the stupid things other people have done and still do and then learn from them!
TALENT - talent will out at the end of the day, if you ain’t got it at the very least you will find it extremely difficult to survive.
LUCK - make your own luck. You do this by marketing your product properly and knowing the right people, (yes it’s not WHAT you know, but WHO you know).
REJECTION - be prepared for this. You need to have thick skin.
SUPPORT - do you have the support of your family or partner? If you don’t this may have a profound effect on you and those around you.
The list above is not exhaustible, and there are a number of drivers or barriers to making a career out of music. So first of all be realistic and don’t knock your head up against a brick wall in an effort to find stardom, instead develop your talent, use your enthusiasm and common sense and don’t be put off and see what happens.
